My Creative Process
Each designer has a unique workflow, but we all struggle collectively. Below I have broken down my own creative process through illustration.
1. Fuel Up
Not only does ample amounts of caffeine act as a driving force for my work, but so does passion and spunk! Caffeine just gives me the extra boost I need to get things moving.
2. Exploration
During this phase, I gather all visual information and research needed to solve the challenge at hand. I find inspiration through media, books, magazines, social, nature…you name it! Inspiration can come from the least expected of places, you just have to be open to it.
3. Sketching
This is where the magic happens. First starting with pen to paper I generate ideas with wordlists, mapping, symbols, and images.
4. Collaboration
I would say this is the most important part of the process. It’s a chance to share and critique your ideas with other creative wizards to get a feel for what sticks! Sometimes these can turn into great alternate brainstorming sessions.
5. FINAL CREATION
It’s the FINAL COUNTDOWN (duhduh-DUH-DUN…duhduh-DUH-dun…I tried lol). Time to finalize all that planning into its final form. You’re at the home stretch, but the rest isn’t always smooth sailing.
6. Presentation
Here’s where I dress up myself and the work to present to the client. Explaining the concept to the client in a way that speaks to them is crucial. Otherwise, it’s back to step 1.
